DESCRIPTION:Spring Break Adventure Camp has unfortunately been cancelled due to the COVID-19 emergency \n  \nLooking for something fun\, active\, and educational for your child to do during the school break? Sign them up for Great Hollow’s Spring Break Adventure Camp! Our popular program offers children ages 5 to 10 the opportunity to get outdoors and experience the natural world on our beautiful 825-acre preserve. Each day includes science-based environmental education activities\, games\, hikes\, and live animal encounters. See below for daily themes and topics. \nRuns from Monday\, April 13 through Friday\, April 17. Single day registration available. Family Level members (and above): $35 per child per day; non-members: $45 per child per day. Drop-off is at 8:30 am and pick-up is at 3:30 pm. Space is very limited. \nDaily Topics: \nMonday \nMountains to Sea: Water\, water everywhere! Did you know over 70% of our planet is covered in water\, but only 2.5% of that water is fresh? Let’s spend the day following the journey of freshwater around our planet! We’ll conduct experiments\, create a 3D watershed\, and explore Great Hollow’s own streams\, creeks\, and wetlands and discuss the many different creatures that call those habitats home. \nTuesday \nInsane Invaders: Toads the size of dogs\, giant snakes\, and microscopic insects that can threaten entire forests! Invasive species can cause lasting\, sometimes irreversible damage on our local ecosystems. Spend the day exploring the different types of these wild invaders and what we can do to help curb their impact. \nWednesday\n \nSnakes\, salamanders and skinks: Hurray for herptiles! Let’s take a look at the many species of amphibians and reptiles that call Connecticut home. We’ll go exploring for salamanders\, feed our resident Corn Snake\, and learn all about the elusive five-lined skink (Connecticut’s only native lizard!). \nThursday \nAdaptation Exploration!: From immortal jellyfish to poison-tongued lizards\, many wild animals have an impressive range of survival adaptions. Join us for a day dedicated to this mind-boggling world of animal adaptations\, and get inspired create an crazy animal of your own! \nFriday \nWildlife Trackers: Have you ever wondered how scientists learn about animals in the wild? Join us for a day of wildlife tracking and find out! Animals like coyotes\, deer\, and bears often show up on special trail cameras set up in wilderness areas. We’ll spend the day looking for tracks in the woods\, creating wildlife bait and lures\, and observing some trail camera photos. What will YOU find in the woods?
