Distance-Learning Program: Backyard BioBlitz

March 31, 2020 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am

We are pleased to announce a series of free distance-learning programs which will allow you to bring Great Hollow right into your home, and keep your kids learning and engaged with the natural world as we wait out this awful pandemic. Kick things off with us on Tuesday the 31st as we go on a virtual Backyard Bioblitz Adventure! Sometimes the most fascinating things lie right under our noses in our very own backyards. In this online class, we will explore the habitats in our backyards, see what cool animals and plants we can find, collect data, and discuss our discoveries together via ZOOM. We will then look for underlying patterns in the data that we collected, talk about predator-prey relationships, create maps, and more! This program is most suitable for children ages 6 to 10. A brief assignment consisting of an outdoor journal activity and sensory exercise will be required beforehand. Participants will also need a computer or tablet with a camera, microphone, and internet connection. Please email our education coordinator Maggie  at for more information and to register. Free for members and non-members
