You’re likely familiar with the shape of a maple leaf, but could you identify a maple tree once all of the leaves have fallen? How do you identify a tree species when there are no leaves? Join us for a presentation and guided hike from our naturalist and CT Master Woodland Manager Ben Lee. Attendees will learn how to identify common trees of Connecticut using bark, buds, and other clues. Ben will also briefly discuss winter forest ecology including which tree species and characteristics are important for our overwintering native wildlife. After our hike we’ll return to the lecture room for light refreshments and an opportunity for additional Q&As.
